Brief history of the department
On November 7, 1971, by order of the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 347/2, the Department of Social Sciences and Languages was established at the evening faculty of the FPI. At the origins of the department were such experienced teachers as Doctor of Philology, prof. Zulpukarov K.Z., d. of ph. s. prof. Tagaev M.D., d., of ph. s, prof. Trofimov M.I., can. of ph. s, Seyitbekova S.S., can. of ph.s.docent Kemeldinova L.M., senior teacher Sokokova Z.S., senior teacher Kamchybekova B.S. and can. of ph. s.docent Kulubekova A.O., and managed to provide the department with highly qualified specialists, rally the staff of the department and direct common efforts to fulfill the main tasks.
Since October 2019, the Department of Foreign Languages had been headed by docent K.T. Turgunbaeva. On February 2023 the department “Foreign languages” was renamed as the department of “World languages” by the decision of the administration council of the university. The discipline Russian language has joined the department. The department of world languages is headed by the candidate of philological sciences professor M.Dzh. Sagynaliev.The authority of the department continues to grow, the methodological and pedagogical skills of the staff are being improved, and the scientific potential of the department is qualitatively increasing.

The main activities of the department:
Active promotion of new technologies in the learning process, providing the learning process with teaching methods, constant monitoring of the quality of students’ knowledge;
- Dissemination of non-traditional teaching methods using computer technologies to improve the quality of education,
- development and publication of teaching aids, participation in scientific and theoretical conferences, advanced training of teachers of the department.
Organizational work of the department
The annual teaching load of teachers is carried out at the beginning of the academic year on the basis of the plan of the educational process, the norms of students and the division of hours. These works are discussed and approved at a meeting of the department and the methodological section, and are also reflected in the individual work plans of teachers. All plans for educational work, schedules of open lessons and lessons of mutual visiting, teachers’ schedules are drawn up at the beginning of the school year. The meetings of the department are held according to the established schedule.
Educational and educational-methodical work of the department.
The department systematically conducts research in the following areas: improving the methods of teaching foreign languages in non-linguistic areas;modern methods and forms of organization of the educational process; optimization of speech communication, development of critical thinking through reading and writing in foreign language classes. These areas correspond to the main goal of teaching a foreign language at the present stage – to teach a specialist to communicate in his specialty.
The department has 11 full-time teachers, 1 laboratory assistant and 1 senior specialist, and 4 foreign teachers. The department serves full-time and part-time students of all the faculties of different specialties at the university in English, Russian, Chinese, Korean and German, in the disciplines “English Language” and “Second Foreign Language”. Classes are conducted on the basis of work programs and curricula developed by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the state model, standard programs and curriculum requirements. More than 10 teaching aids in English have been carried out for practical lessons.
To improve their professional and methodological knowledge, teachers attend interuniversity, regional various methodological seminars, courses, i.e. Association of Teachers of English, Osh Forum Center Kg TESOL; Japan Association of Centers LT-Osh OSPU-SU; Bagyt kg – training center, Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland, within the framework of the Erasmus + project on mobility, with the Namangan State Humanitarian Institute of Foreign Languages for the exchange of experiences, taking part in methodological scientific and practical seminars.
Research and methodological work of the department
Research and methodological work of the department is carried out in the following areas:
- Pedagogical conditions for the formation of students’ communicative competence in teaching
foreign languages;
- Teaching English, Russian, Korean and Chinese using innovative methods;
- Using of interactive technologies in the learning process;
Currently, according to recent years, about 60 scientific articles have been published. The teachers’ staff of the department annually publishes their scientific articles in leading scientific journals and publications included in the list of NAC.
Educational work of the department
Learning activities are carried out through the learning process.
- Conducting continuous conversations with students about the culture of English-speaking countries, holding round tables on various topics related to the educational process.
- Holding various events in English.
