On November 27, 2025, Osh Technological University hosted a round table discussion titled “Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development of Osh City: Challenges and Solutions.” The event was organized by the Institute of Technology and Natural Resources Management in collaboration with the Association of Non-Governmental Organizations “Advocacy Center for Human Rights.”
The round table was opened by Nurlanbek Tanakov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation of OshTU, who emphasized the strategic importance of environmental safety for the sustainable development of the country and the region. He highlighted the significant role of higher education institutions in developing scientifically grounded solutions and encouraged young researchers and students to actively participate in environmental projects. He also noted that this event would serve as a platform for further cooperation.
The forum was attended by university leadership, representatives of the Osh City Mayor’s Office, the Osh Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, and representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision. In addition, the municipal enterprise “Osh-Tazalyk,” the city landscaping company, environmental organizations, faculty members, and members of the student eco-club took part in the event.

Climate risks and adaptation measures

Expansion of green areas

Improvement of waste management systems
Several scientific presentations were delivered during the event, including:

Global warming and climate change: Implementation of international agreements ratified by Kyrgyzstan

Air quality in Osh City: Key issues and trends

Monitoring of landslide-prone areas in and around Osh

Pest and disease issues affecting shrubs and trees in Osh
At the conclusion of the round table, a set of recommendations aimed at ensuring the environmental safety and sustainable development of the city was developed and submitted to relevant state bodies and institutions.
