Department of Computational Linguistics

The Department of Computational Linguistics is a space where linguistics, programming, and artificial intelligence come together to form a new generation of specialists for the digital age.

The department was founded in 2012 and is now one of the most dynamically developing departments at Osh Technological University. The department is headed by Aizhan Shermatova, who holds a master’s degree in philological education.

Educational areas

The department trains highly qualified bachelors in two innovative areas:

531100 – Linguistics (specialization: Translation and Translation Studies)

Future translators learn the intricacies of intercultural communication, literary, technical, and simultaneous translation. Graduates become professionals capable of working in international companies, the media, government agencies, and the education sector.

710600 — “Computational Linguistics” (specialization: Intercultural Communication and Automated Translation Systems)

Students explore modern language processing technologies, machine translation, speech recognition, big data analysis, and artificial intelligence.
Graduates create software capable of “understanding” language, engaging in dialogue, and helping people communicate without borders.

We teach students to view language not only as a means of communication but also as a tool for human–machine interaction.
Graduates of the department are specialists capable of:
designing intelligent language systems;
developing machine translation algorithms;

creating solutions for the digital society of the future.
Faculty
The department brings together experienced teachers, researchers, and practitioners proficient in modern digital tools and innovative teaching methods.
The team includes two PhD holders, associate professors of Osh Technological University, masters of philological and technical disciplines, a software engineer, and a laboratory assistant.

  The department actively develops research in digital and corpus linguistics, machine translation, and artificial intelligence technologies.
