History of the department
According to the order of the Education Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 347/2, June 7, 1971, the Department of Social Sciences and Language was opened at the Osh Evening Faculty.
In relation to the organization of the Osh Higher Technological College, it became the department of “Sociology and Humanitarian Education” in 1990. Since 1994, it has been named the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences.
The departments of History and Philosophy merged and became the department of Social Sciences in 2002.

Department is today
Since the formation of the department, along with targeted work to improve the theoretical, scientific and methodological level of social studies lessons, it has paid special attention to the practical consolidation of new innovative teaching methods in the educational process.
In order to improve the level of educational and research work, the department conducts theoretical and methodological seminars.
Teachers improve their professional skills through internships, postgraduate studies and special trainings.
From 1993-94 academic year the department has opened a 4-month course of preparation for a candidate’s dissertation in philosophy to meet the needs of teachers and graduate students.
Since 2001 the clubs “Rukhaniyat” and “Kaganat” have been functioning at the department in order to develop students’ theoretical knowledge in practice.
There are 5 candidates of sciences working at the department now.
The department employs 6 associate professors, 2 teachers.
